QA/QC Chemist – Mud Lab & Lubricants
🛠️ Key Responsibilities:
Quality Control:
- Perform routine testing of drilling fluids (water-based, oil-based, synthetic) and lubricants for properties such as:
- Viscosity, pH, density, yield point, gel strength
- Lubricity coefficient, flash point, pour point, TBN (Total Base Number)
- Solids content, filtration loss, emulsion stability
- Ensure all products meet API (American Petroleum Institute), ASTM, or customer-specific standards.
- Monitor raw materials, in-process samples, and final products.
Quality Assurance:
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain documentation for ISO 9001 or other relevant certifications.
- Conduct internal audits, manage corrective/preventive actions.
- Work closely with R&D to support new product formulations and testing.
Lab Management:
- Maintain calibration and servicing of lab instruments (e.g., Fann Viscometer, retort kits, flash point tester).
- Ensure lab safety and compliance with environmental and health regulations.
- Train junior chemists or lab technicians.
📚 Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Petroleum Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in mud laboratories, lubricant plants, or oilfield services
- Familiarity with:
- API RP 13B-1/13B-2 (drilling fluid testing procedures)
- ASTM D92, D97, D2896 (lubricant testing standards)
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
- Computer proficiency (LIMS, Excel, report generation)
